RAIN TAXI CELEBRATES TEN YEARS OF PUBLISHING
On Saturday, December 10th, Rain Taxi held a soiree in Minneapolis to celebrate ten years of Rain Taxi Review of Books. The wonderful Rogue Buddha Gallery graciously allowed Rain Taxi a space filled with clever statuary and colorful paintings in which to gather and a steady stream of friends, supporters, reviewers, and devotees of this stalwart literary icon.
Amidst the food, drink, and conversation, certain people gave toasts to Rain Taxi's illustrious past and continuance into the future. Charisse Gendron, Rain Taxi's current Board Chair, toasted the intrepid dedication of Rain Taxi's full-time drivers, Eric Lorberer and Kelly Everding. Steve Healey, a local poet and long-time friend of Eric and Kelly, raised a glass to the rich literary community that Rain Taxi creates by fomenting conversation and criticism of current writing. Fiona McCrae, publisher of local independent press Graywolf, spoke on behalf of the literary small press scene in the Twin Cities, thanking Rain Taxi not only for the coverage it provides but the push toward excellence it encourages. Local author Nor Hall toasted Rain Taxi's prescient editorial and artistic vision, while the legendary Robert Bly offered an apocalyptic yet heartfelt tip of the hat to Rain Taxi's continuation in the struggle against all that threatens independent literature.
The party was a culmination of events celebrating Rain Taxi's Tenth Anniversary, including the revealing of our new Tenth Anniversary Issue and our Tenth Anniversary Tee, a new chapbook in the Rain Taxi Brainstorm Series by poet Alice Notley, and a charity auction on eBay, which included signed first editions, broadsides, artwork, and even some textile works dedicated to Rain Taxi. With the financial help these fundraisers are providing, we look forward to fighting the good fight for another ten years!
