Volunteer for the 2008
TWIN CITIES BOOK FESTIVAL
The 8th annual Twin Cities Book Festival needs volunteers to help at this popular event for readers! The Festival includes a literary arts exhibit and book fair, readings by national and local authors, a children’s Storytelling Circle, and a benefit used book sale—all free and open to the public.
Volunteering is a great way to meet authors and explore the local literary community! Shifts will be 2.5 hours, and volunteers should report to the volunteer coordinator 15 minutes before shift start for a quick orientation and training. Most roles involve some interaction with the public and some light physical activity (standing, walking, handling books). Efforts will be made to accommodate requests for particular volunteer roles, but due to the varying numbers needed, we cannot guarantee particular choices.
Volunteer roles:
Friday Afternoon Setup: (4-7pm): Set up the exhibitor tables, used book sale area, and Storytelling Circle.
Saturday Morning Setup (8-10am): Greet exhibitors, help them find table locations, bring empty hand-trucks/carts to the drop-off, and help set up the Information Desk.
The Festival (9:30am-12pm, 12-2:30pm, 2:30-5pm):
· Used Book Tables: Accept payment for books and refresh stock.
· Reading Rooms: Answer questions before and after author readings, monitor
the doors.
· Greeters/Floaters: Welcome festival attendees, direct them to reading rooms
and exhibits, hand out programs.
· Information Desk: Direct visitors to readings, exhibits and restrooms,
answer questions.
· Storytelling Circle: Greet performers, read to children, and distribute donated
children’s books.
